Tallarook State Forest - Victoria - 10k/2hrs
Blog
Now this one was a totally unplanned hike, you see, it was our 30th wedding anniversary and we planned a long weekend in country Victoria, we ended up at an amazing farm stay ( @Trawool_shed_cottages ) and the host told us that the state forest behind their property had plenty of trails, so we headed out there for a noisy and created this short 10k loop around the Falls Creek Reservoir which is located deep in the forest.
To access this part of the state forest you will need to take the King Parrot Creek Road off the Goulburn Valley Hwy and then drive up and up and up the hill into the forest. When in there we continued on dirt roads until the West Falls Road, which, stopped abruptly at a seasonally closed gate. A two wheel drive `could` get in there but I`d not be recommend it - we have a Pajero which is fully kitted out for off road adventures.
When you jump out at the gate you are faced with a very steep and rutted decent of approx 1km to the reservoir , from there follow our loop which brings you gradually back up to the car via a small number of beautiful trails but mainly wide 4wd trails.
At the weekend we`d imagine the place would be busy with 4wd and trail bikes, fortunately we were there mid week and can across only one 4wd and that was driven by a maintenance contractor ( so not hooning).
Our Relive page below will give you a good overview of the hike, it was pleasant, great to be outdoors, but was it `great`? ... we have done better - BUT, any time out hiking is a bonus so give it a go if you get there.
What we will highly promote is the Trawool Shed Cottage , a bloody great find that took us by surprise, a last minute booking that will be a long lasting memory of ours. Check out their social pages and we provide a link below.
